Scarborough Jolly
All present and correct we set of up the A14 heading for Thetford where Roy and Sally joined us. Travelling up through the fens, thank you to the RAF or USAF for the free display of what we think was a Flying Fortress doing several passes, good to see what ever it was, or was it scheduled Maureen? Breakfast was enjoyed at the Holbeach Café, heading up through to Caister on to Brigg Garden Centre just in time for lunch. The Humber Bridge was blowing a gentle breeze, enough for the two offices of the law to hold on to there hats! We soon had Scarborough in our sights and the smell of the sea in our nostrils, suitable parking was easily found and gentle stroll up to a local café for a tea and a bun.
Our evening meal was at the Ivanhoe public house.
Sunday morning came very quickly, the sky was not looking promising and water proofs were soon required. As we passed along the prom nature gave us a demonstration of the power of the sea, hitting the sea wall and showering over the road.We passed through Scarborough town and onto Oliver’s Mount, a road race circuit, a tour round to get the lie of the land and next time go for it. This year proved a little slower, firstly it had been raining and debris on the road. We headed away from Scarborough into the moors of Yorkshire, riding through some superb scenery albeit a little blustery at times. Coffee was served at the Lion inn on Blakey Ridge which seemed to on top of the world. Further on through the hills until a small brook was come across, out with the balls ready for the duck racing. Grosmont Station was next for a tea and cake. Back into Scarborough and a walk down to the front where we boarded a smaller train which took us along the front, a lot less effort than walking. Another good night in the Ivanhoe served by some interesting ladies.
Sunday dawned everybody is ready and kitted up, then there was scream of I DON`T BELIEVE IT echoed across Scarborough from Victor Meldrews mouth alias Graham,he had managed to lock his top box and pannier keys inside the top box.
We headed back stopping at Seaways café in Fridaythorpe a biker’s café, where Jean told other motorcyclists off, after a certain overtaking manovere.Stopping off for refreshment at Pennels café, then onto Wisbech for evening meal and home. A great weekend away with great people. Many thanks to Maureen and Stanford for putting it together.
