Friday 6th July,19 bikes, 23 members, left Ipswich at 9am for a 3 day trip to Hampshire. The weather on the way down was good apart for blustery high winds. We had a lunch stop at Tesco's in Bicester, and an afternoon stop at a cafe in Hungerford. After checking in to our hotel, The Premier Travel Inn at Bishopdown near Salisbury, a small group of 6 members left for a short ride out to Amesbury, returning via the unclassified road that runs beside the river Avon through the beautiful Woodford villages arriving back at the hotel at 7pm.
Saturday we left the hotel in brilliant sunshine and made our way to a cafe in Avon Country Park at Ringwood for breakfast (alfresco), then on to The Sammy Miller Museum at New Milton, where we were given a personal tour by Sammy Miller. After spending a few hours round the museum and a visit to the cafe, we split into 3 groups, the main group headed for Brockenhurst and the 2 ornamental drives through the New Forest, then left onto the B3078 making for Fordingbridge, Cranborne, Sixpenny Handley , stopping here at The Rising Sun pub, then onto unclassified roads to join the A30 for Fovant and a view of the Regimental Badges in the chalk hill, then back to Salisbury.
Sunday we left for our journey home with the first stop at The Hill Top Cafe at Firsdown for breakfast. Another break was had at Midhurst for tea, cake, and icecreams. Our final stop was at a pub in Westerham. We arrived back in Ipswich at 6.15pm, after a round trip of 572 miles.
We would like to thank Sammy Miller for his welcome, and for taking the time to show us round the museum.
