Triangle Equilateral Challenge 2012
The idea of this is to give you the membership a challenge for the year. It is like the challenges of riding from Lands End to John O’Groats or Lowestoft to St Davids. (East to West) There will be 3 categories so you can choose the mileage that suits you. There is no specific route so you can take as direct or indirect route as you prefer. The ride is based on an equilateral triangle giving you 3 points to visit which includes your start finish point. You must collect a timed receipt at the start and finish point and photographic evidence of your visit to the other 2 points. Minimum riding times apply to the challenge to prevent racing. The challenge is open to the end of the year so you can ride any time that suits you. There is no entry fee to keep costs to a minimum and as we gauge the popularity of the event we may be able to present a badge, sticker or pen as evidence of competing the challenge. Below are the 3 categories.
GOLD - Start point Ipswich other locations are Steyning just off the A283, 5 miles north of Shoreham by Sea, Sussex and Staverton on the A425, 2 miles west of Daventry. These locations are 100 miles from each other as the crow flies. A MINIMUM time of 8 hours must show between your start and finish times.
SILVER -Start point Ipswich other locations are Chalford St Giles, 2 miles west of junction 17 on the M25 and Crowland on the A1073, 4 miles north of Peterborough. These locations are 75 miles from each other as the crow flies. A MINIMUM time of 6 hours must show between start and finish times.
Bronze -Start point Ipswich other locations are North Weald Bassett on the B181, 3 miles south east of Harlow and Somersham on the B1050, 5 miles north east of Huntingdon. These locations are 50 miles from each other as the crow flies. A MINIMUM of 5 hours must show between your start and finish times.
When you have completed a challenge forward your receipts and photo’s to me and I will update a list that will be displayed on the club notice board, showing which members have completed a challenge. A form to show which challenge you have entered for will be on the club notice board and on the club web site, hand this in with your challenge evidence.
I expect the Gold distance to be similar to last year which when completed covered 380 miles. This gives you some guide as to the sort of mileage you are likely to cover. I expect the silver will be close to 280 miles and the bronze 180 miles, but the only way to find out for yourself is to take the challenge. The ride last year was a great day that took me along roads we would not normally cover.
