Derbyshire 2009 |

Friday 12th June, 25 bikes, 34 members, left Ipswich at 8am for a long weekend in Derbyshire. The riding conditions were very good with dry and sunny weather. Our route took us via Bury St Edmunds, Wicken, Ramsey, Whittlesey, Grantham, Newark, Ollerton, Dronfield, and finally to The Westminster Hotel at Buxton, our base for the weekend. We stopped for breakfast at The Hero of Aliwal at Whittlesey, and lunch stop was at the Forest Corner Cafe at Ollerton.
Saturday morning was very sunny and warm again as we headed out for an approx 120 mile ride out, taking in the Cat & Fiddle road, the Goyt Valley, then stopping at The Navigation Inn for morning coffee and a stroll around Bugsworth Basin. We then left for Glossop and a ride down the Snake Pass, and on to Edale, Barber Booth, Rush Up Edge, Millers Dale, and Tideswell , before stopping at Castleton for a touch of "duck racing" in the local stream and a cream tea at The Rose Cottage Tearooms. After leaving Castleton we headed up Winnats Pass and returned to Buxton via a ride through Ashford in the Water, Bakewell, and Moynash.
Once again the weather was brilliant on Sunday morning for our 220 mile ride home. We left Buxton via Millers Dale and Monsal Dale stopping at Monsal Head for the views, after which the route took us through Chesterfield, Bolsover, with a stop at The Forest Corner Cafe again. Then the short trip down the A1 leaving at Grantham and making our way across country to West Walton near Wisbech for a carvery at The King of Hearts, finally returning to Ipswich. A round trip of 533 miles.
Many thanks to Shelly at The Westminster Hotel Buxton for her hospitality. Many thanks also to the staff at The Hero of Aliwal, Whittlesey, Michelangelo's in Buxton, The Old Clubhouse in Buxton, and The King of Hearts, West Walton.
